A system for monitoring the impact of the banana, vegetable, and beekeeping value chains in the departments of La Unión and San Miguel

This document was prepared within the framework of the project “Innovations and Development for a Green Economy,” funded by the EU through the AL-INVEST Green program: Component 1 EU-Latin America Partnership for Sustainable Growth and Employment.

The project is implemented through a partnership between the Local Economic Development Agency of the Department of La Unión (ADEL La Unión), the Institute for International Links and Services for Local and Economic Development Agencies (ILS LEDA), and the National Research Council, Institute of Mediterranean Studies (CNR-ISMED).

The objective of this work is to “Design of the monitoring system and its link to a Green Observatory for Sustainable Development.”

The proposed monitoring system for analyzing the horticultural, vegetable, and beekeeping value chains in the Departments of La Unión and San Miguel complements the RESCO (Resources for Sustainable Economic Competitiveness) methodology developed by ISLEDA.

The document includes four parts:

  1. Theoretical Approach and Methodology
  2. The Monitoring System, which highlights a monitoring system that focuses on the main components and elements of the strategies (see Annex 1 for details of the strategies)
  3. The components of a monitoring system for the impact of value chain strategies, in general
  4. The components of the monitoring system for horticultural, vegetable, and apicultural value chain strategies in the Departments of La Unión and San Miguel, which includes 4 dimensions, 9 components, 43 variables, and corresponding measurable indicators
